This section of the site contains details of the research on Information Literacy by Susie Andretta who has been working within this field for the last ten years focusing on the integration of information literacy education in a range of disciplines, and at all levels of provision.

Her first book Information literacy: a practitioner’s guide (2005) describes this phenomenon as the foundation of lifelong learning and as the way of empowering the facilitator and the learner. In January 2006 she also edited Information Literacy: challenges of implementation,a special issue on information literacy commissioned by Italics, the online journal of the Higher Education Academy Information and Computer Sciences in the UK. This issue looks at the problems of integrating information literacy within the Higher Education sector. In 2007 she edited a book on Change and challenge: Information literacy for the 21st Century. This work builds on the previous research and promotes information literacy as the ‘functional literacy’ required to deal with a constantly evolving digital environment.

Her latest publication consists of a chapter in Information Literacy as the crossroad of Education and Information Policies in Europe (2008 in press) published as an initiative of the European Network of Information Literacy. This chapter 'Information literacy from the learner’s perspective. A UK study’ defines information literacy as a convergence of the learn-how-to-learn approach and the complex interaction between learner and information, demonstrating the impact of these combined strategies with examples from her practice with postgraduate students.
